Microservices are becoming the de facto standard when it comes to architecting complex applications. Each microservice handles one small part of the application and can be deployed as a standalone service without having to run it in an application server. Twitter's Finagle project can help you build these microservices since it's a lightweight RPC system for the JVM to build high-concurrency servers.
